Will the Minister outline when the Welsh Government's Welsh Benefits System and Charter will be introduced?

Answered by Minister for Social Justice and Chief Whip | Answered on 08/02/2024

The Welsh Benefits Charter was launched on 22 January with the endorsement of all 22 local authorities, confirming their collective commitment to improving access to the financial support made available by the Welsh Government.

The Charter commitments are already being implemented for a number of benefits through the sharing of best practice delivery models across Welsh local authorities.

An external steering group has been established to develop an action plan of the activities needed for a more joined-up Welsh benefits system where all financial support schemes are consistently delivered in line with the Charter’s commitments. Given the complexity of the task it is anticipated that there will be short-term and longer-term actions which will be detailed, along with implementation timescales, in the action plan.

The external steering group will hold its inaugural meeting on 14th February with an aim of producing the action plan by Summer 2024.
