How will the Minister be changing how he engages with local authorities to encourage schools in their areas to revise their approach to delivering the new curriculum, following the publication of the Estyn chief inspector's annual report?

I issued a Written Statement on 31 January 2024 updating members on progress on the “Review of the roles and responsibilities of education partners in Wales and school improvement arrangements”.

The focus of the Education Leaders Summit held this week was  to ensure that we have a comprehensive and system level response to our shared challenge of improving educational performance and raising standards.

At the summit, I emphasised my national priorities for education - attendance, behaviour, and well-being; excellent teaching; curriculum reform - with a particular focus on literacy and numeracy; and additional learning needs support.

I attach my statement and the letter from Professor Jones which provides further detail of his findings and details our approach and activities moving forward focussed on how school improvement can best be supported at the local, supra-local and national levels.
