Will the Minister explain what is being done about the shortage of semaglutide, a medicine vital to people suffering from diabetes?

Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services | Answered on 06/02/2024

There is currently a UK wide supply issue affecting semaglutide (Ozempic®). I set out the extensive measures taken by the Welsh and UK Governments to support pharmacists, prescribers and patients to manage shortages in my written statement on this matter, published on 18 October. The statement can be accessed at: https://www.gov.wales/written-statement-disruptions-supply-medicines

The UK Government has responsibility for maintaining the supply of medicines and we are working closely with the UK Government, NHS Wales, GPs and community pharmacies to ensure patients continue to receive the medicines they need.
