Does the Minister consider it appropriate for buildings such as the former Toys R Us building in Cardiff Bay to be used as temporary accommodation?

Answered by Minister for Climate Change | Answered on 06/02/2024

Welsh Government continues to work closely with all local authorities, including Cardiff Council, to ensure the provision of appropriate homelessness prevention and relief measures in line with their statutory obligations.

Discussions with Cardiff Council confirm the use of the Toys R Us site is an emergency measure and plans are in place to close the site and assist the adults currently using the provision to move on to more suitable accommodation.

By the nature of their circumstances, some people experiencing homelessness may require additional care and support which is available from specialist staff.
