What is the Government is doing to ensure that sporting events remain affordable and accessible to everyone in Wales?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism | Answered on 30/01/2024

We want sporting events to be accessible and affordable. This is a consideration for our national governing bodies in striking a balance between ticket pricing and securing income that is reinvested into the sport at all levels.

We also want sporting events to be accessible and affordable in the media, given its wider reach. A recent decision not to include Six Nations rugby in the free-to-air category for broadcasting purposes was disappointing, especially given the cultural and social importance of rugby in Wales. We have urged the UK Government to ensure the competition remains free-to air and will continue to make the case.
