What measures will the Welsh Government use to assess whether the Welsh benefits charter has been a success or not?

Answered by Minister for Social Justice and Chief Whip | Answered on 05/02/2024

The commitments and outcomes within the Welsh Benefits Charter were designed by stakeholders to be sufficiently robust to demonstrate improved access to Welsh benefits.

There are eight outcomes listed in the Charter covering a range of intended impacts including increased awareness of, and take-up of support, reduction in need for crisis support, building financial resilience and developing a collaborative approach to policy development.

The external steering group which has been set up to oversee the work on the streamlining of Welsh Benefits System will be developing appropriate reporting mechanisms for measuring progress against these outcomes.

This work is being carried out in collaboration with Sian Gwenllian, the Plaid Cymru designated member, as part of the Co-operation Agreement between the Welsh Government and Plaid Cymru.
