What co-operation did the Welsh Government have with the Children's Commissioner in drafting the Welsh Government's child poverty strategy?

Answered by Minister for Social Justice and Chief Whip | Answered on 02/02/2024

Ministers and Welsh Government officials meet regularly with the Children’s Commissioner for Wales. The Child Poverty Strategy has been discussed frequently, particularly during the last 12 months.

The Children’s Commissioner’s office regularly attended our Child Poverty Strategy Expert Reference Group with observer status. The Expert Reference Group has been a key source of advice and guidance during the development of the strategy.

The Children’s Commissioner and her officials supported our pre-engagement activity early in 2023. The Commissioner also responded to the draft strategy consultation and gave evidence to the Senedd Equality and Social Justice Committee which is reflected in its report.

The final strategy was revised in line with the feedback received during the consultation exercise, including from the Children’s Commissioner, the Expert Reference Group and the Senedd Committee.
