Further to WQ90427, will the Welsh Government undertake an economic impact assessment of the rail industry not operating passenger services in Wales on 26 December 2023?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Climate Change | Answered on 29/01/2024

The Welsh Government has no plans to undertake an economic assessment of the rail industry not operating passenger services in Wales on 26 December. The decision of the four train operators was in line with the industry across England, and reflects the lower levels of economic activity expected on this day. Transport for Wales and Network Rail are able to use the period over Christmas to undertake major pieces of infrastructure work across Wales, including significantly increased work on the Core Valley Lines Transformation Programme.
