What steps is the Welsh Government taking to protect communities from worsening flooding due to climate change?

Managing the risks of flooding and coastal erosion is a high priority for this Government, we have committed to fund additional flood protection for 45,000 homes this Senedd term. Last year (2022-23) as part of our Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) Programme, we agreed a 3-year capital budget, totalling £102 million. This allows us to better plan our investment, and to support at risk communities. We also almost doubled revenue funding available for local authorities to £225k each and I am pleased that we have maintained this funding during the 2023-24 financial year.

Natural Resources Wales (NRW) also offers support on ‘What to do before, during and after a flood’ which is available on their website. I strongly encourage anyone concerned or affected by flooding to consult this support.
