How many people are a) waiting to access dementia care; b) on the dementia care pathway; and c) accessing specialist dementia services, in each health board in Wales?

Work continues between health boards, Improvement Cymru and Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW) to support the standardised collection of primary care dementia register data, with the aim of producing diagnostic rates data. The data will be made publicly available quarterly at a regional and national level initially, with a view to moving towards monthly reporting in the longer term.

We are working towards having memory assessment services activity reported at a national level.

Additionally, the NHS Executive have undertaken a ‘snapshot’ assurance review of Memory Assessment Services (MAS) across Wales, these findings are now informing our work plan.

We have previously published a Welsh Health Circular which sets out guidance for Welsh Health Boards to assist with the recording of a diagnosis of dementia.
