What disability and equality awareness training have Welsh Ministers been given, specifically including disability and equality laws?
Ministers are required to have a working understanding of the Social Model of Disability, disability equality, and the equality-based laws that we must support and work within. This is underpinned by advice they receive from officials which will set out the necessary legal and policy considerations.
It is crucial that ministers learn about disability related discrimination directly from disabled people themselves. This direct learning takes place through meetings with disabled peoples organisations, our own Disability Rights Forum and most importantly, our Disability Rights Taskforce. Through this direct work with disabled taskforce members, we are designing actions that are in line with the actual needs and aspirations of disabled people.
Consideration is also being given to whether additional training in intersectional and cross cutting equality and disability matters would further aid awareness across all ministerial portfolios.
