What assessment has the Welsh Government made of the implications of the COP28 agreement, that includes calls to triple renewable energy capacity and double the rate of energy efficiency, on spending and policy commitments by the Welsh Government?

Answered by Minister for Climate Change | Answered on 04/01/2024

The Welsh Government will continue to deliver in line with our net zero ambitions and within the scope of our powers and resources, to support the UK Government in its international climate change obligations.

We have set a target for Wales to fully meet our electricity needs from renewable sources by 2035 and our policies will support that target.

The principles of a circular economy, energy and resource efficiency and a transition towards a renewables-based energy system are key features of our current statutory emissions reduction plan, Net Zero Wales: Carbon Budget 2 (2021-2025). Our priority is to deliver on these commitments and develop further policies for future carbon budget periods, in line with our pathway to net zero.
