What data or evidence is the Welsh Government using to track and measure the effectiveness of efforts to recruit more teachers?
We use a wide range of data sources to assess the numbers of qualified teachers in the workforce. These include the Pupil Level Annual School Census (PLASC) and the School Workforce Annual Census (SWAC). Alongside these we use data from the Education Workforce Council’s Education Workforce Survey, annual Initial Teacher Education results and the registered number of Newly Qualified Teachers report.
We also use data from tracking the effectiveness of our marketing activity to assess the conversion rates of individuals accessing information to entrants to programmes of Initial Teacher Education.
