What support is the Welsh Government providing to Pontins staff, who have been suddenly made redundant?

Answered by Minister for Economy | Answered on 22/12/2023

Following the unexpected announcement in relation to Pontins, Prestatyn on the 30 November I have met regularly with the Leader of Denbighshire County Council, Cllr Jason McLellan, to agree our collective response to the impacts of the closure. Our immediate focus is on the staff who have been made redundant, working with partner organisations including Working Denbighshire and the Department for Work and Pensions.

A pro-active social media campaign by the Council succeeded in ensuring that a large number of those affected attended a recent recruitment fair being held by another holiday camp, which I understand resulted in a number being offered positions for the 2024 season. It also provided an opportunity for us to better understand who and how many have been affected, so that further tailored support can be offered. This includes appropriate signposting for individual support, along with a jobs fair in the new year.

Brittania Hotels have responded positively to Cllr McLellan and my letter requesting a joint meeting, which will take place as soon as possible.
