How has the Welsh Government worked with the North Wales Fire and Rescue service and the Fire Brigades Union on the issue of Rhyl fire station?

North Wales Fire and Rescue Authority (NWFRA) has conducted a review of all of its frontline emergency cover.  This includes proposals to move Rhyl fire station from wholetime to a day crewing duty system, alongside proposals for other fire stations.

I have met the Chair and Chief Fire Officer of NWFRA, and local and national representatives of the Fire Brigades Union, several times to discuss the review.  At those meetings, I have urged all concerned to reach a solution which is sustainable, effective and fair to the workforce and to all communities in north Wales.  However, this remains a local and operational decision for NWFRA to make in consultation with the FBU and other interested parties.
