How does the Welsh Government encourage Wales-based businesses to utilise local supply chains?

The Economic Mission priorities for a stronger economy which was recently published highlights four priorities which are:

  • A Just Transition and Green Prosperity
  • A platform for young people, fair work, skills and success
  • Stronger partnerships for stronger regions and the everyday economy
  • Investing for Growth

Our mission for a prosperous, greener and fairer Welsh economy rests on stronger regional economies to drive up growth for better jobs in communities, one that is built by all of us.

Sell2Wales is the Welsh Government’s procurement portal set up to help businesses win contracts with the public sector and to allow public sector buyers to advertise and manage tender opportunities.

Business Wales Tendering Advisors help Welsh-based businesses grow and become ‘fit for tender’ to improve their chances of winning public and private sector contracts, sub-contracting work on larger public-sector projects and securing places on public sector frameworks.

Our focus on the Foundational Economy also involves working with Welsh based businesses to develop shorter, more resilient local supply chains. Within the Food sector for example, work is underway to grow the range of Welsh produce stocked by major Welsh food distributors and in the housing sector, registered social landlords are supported to source local contractors to engage in delivery of future housing programmes.
