Will the Minister confirm that the software currently being used for e-prescribing in Wales is compatible with the EMIS Health and Cegedim Healthcare Solutions computer systems used by GP practices?

The Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) in Primary Care in Wales is capable of being compatible with both EMIS and Cegedim GP IT systems. However, I have been clear with Members since the start of this work that it will require GP (and Pharmacy) IT System providers to develop interoperability with EPS. Currently, EMIS have developed interoperability with EPS, but Cegedim have chosen not to develop EPS interoperability within their current software available in Wales - but have indicated that they will develop it in their next generation software. This is currently planned to be available within the next 18 months; Digital Health and Care Wales are working closely with this suppler to enable this to happen.
