Will the Minister provide an update on plans to create a new national park in Wales?

Answered by Minister for Rural Affairs and North Wales, and Trefnydd | Answered on 29/11/2023

The designation of a new National Park in North-East Wales is a manifesto and Programme for Government (PfG) commitment. We have asked NRW to take forward a programme that includes detailed assessment, consideration of the evidence, engagement and consultation. This will inform a final decision on any new designation. Additional funding is being allocated to NRW to deliver the formal designation programme.

It is critical the views of those affected are heard and there is extensive engagement and consultation throughout the process. During November NRW has held a series of engagement events to gauge people’s views. Seven public information sessions have been held in November and NRW has also received numerous responses to a questionnaire about the process. Feedback collected will be crucial in shaping the next stages. There will also be a full consultation in 2024 on the proposed final boundaries of a new park.
