Will the Welsh Government provide a breakdown by local authority on how many racial and discriminative incidents have been recorded in Welsh schools this year?
The Welsh Government does not collect data on bullying and harassment in schools at a national level, including prejudice-related incidents. To do so would require amending The Education (Information About Individual Pupils) (Wales) Regulations 2007.
The Welsh Government’s statutory anti-bullying guidance ‘Rights, Respect, Equality’ sets out the expectation that schools record and monitor all instances of bullying. The Welsh Government expects data and information collected by schools to be used to identify improvements and assess their progress as part of self-evaluation.
