What plans does the Minister have to ensure the future of dairy farms in Wales, following news that NFU Cymru have warned that dairy farmers face an uncertain future and are urging the Welsh Government and consumers to do more to back Welsh farming?

Answered by Minister for Rural Affairs and North Wales, and Trefnydd | Answered on 07/11/2023

The Welsh Government acknowledges the difficult market conditions currently being faced by the dairy industry. We are working closely with the UK, Northern Ireland and Scottish Governments to introduce a mandatory pricing mechanism within all dairy contracts between dairy farmers and processors to secure the best outcome for our dairy producers.

We also offer a range of support to improve the financial and environmental performance of farm businesses in Wales, supporting investments in infrastructure, technology and equipment, and remain committed to helping the Welsh dairy sector and Welsh agriculture build sustainable, resilient businesses.
