What support is available for people who develop young-onset dementia, and will the successor dementia action plan fully cover this?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing | Answered on 07/11/2023

The Dementia Action Plan outlines that services must address the specific needs of younger people with dementia and their families, and ensure that they are aware of the help that is available. We provide £12m to Regional Partnership Boards annually to support the implementation of the Dementia Action Plan and develop a joint health and social care approach to dementia support.

The Dementia Action Plan is being independently evaluated, and this evaluation will inform the successor arrangements to the plan. Following consideration of the findings of the evaluation, Welsh Government will consult with stakeholders in developing these successor arrangements.

Planning around how this engagement will take place will be developed in conjunction with the Dementia Oversight of Implementation and Impact Group in 2024.
