How many people have found employment through the Welsh Government's Young Person's Guarantee programme since its launch in 2021?
The Young Person’s Guarantee (YPG) was launched in November 2021 and its main employability and skills programmes have led to the following:
- Since its launch in April 2022 (and by end of March 2023) 3,220 Jobs Growth Wales+ programmes have ended, of which 58% had a positive outcome (which can include employment or higher level learning) based on the learner’s destination within four weeks of leaving the programme – with 715 individuals finding employment.
- Between November 2021 and the end of September 2023, Community Employability Programmes (CfW, CfW+ and PaCE) have supported 8,680 16-24 year olds and helped 3,629 into employment.
- Between November 2021 and the end of January 2023, there were 10,975 apprenticeship starts by under 25s.
- Since the start of the YPG, 498 young people under 25 who have been engaging with the Welsh Government on self-employment support have started their own business.
Overall, we are making strong progress in delivering our YPG with over 27,000 young people starting on employability and skills programmes alone.
The Guarantee also spans support with regards to education settings such as schools, FE colleges and University, amongst other things. To that end, we do not have exact verifiable figures to connect the support provided and employment outcomes, given the number of variables that lead to a learner’s destination and the timescales between support, period of learning and onward progression. However, our YPG Annual Report 2022 sets out the range of statistical outputs and datasets relevant to the YPG and the latest data available.
