What assessment has the Welsh Government made into the feasibility of re-opening the Aberystwyth to Carmarthen rail line?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Climate Change | Answered on 30/10/2023

The rail infrastructure needed to reopen these lines is not a devolved matter. Transport for Wales have carried out a WelTAG stage 1 study into options to improve transport links between north and south Wales, including how to protect potential travel corridors along the western coast of Wales from Swansea to Bangor. Further work is being undertaken on options, including establishing a strategic bus link and considering land protection to enable future rail links.

This work is being carried out in collaboration with Siân Gwenllian MS, the Plaid Cymru lead designated member, as part of the Co-operation Agreement between the Welsh Government and Plaid Cymru.
