Will the Welsh Government take steps to lift the voices of leaseholders in consultative forums, ensuring the discussions are not potentially dominated by supply-side stakeholders?
Leaseholder and Resident engagement remains at the core of my approach. My proposals seek to empower leaseholders and tenants to have more say in matters that affect their homes. Obtaining the expert views, leaseholder perspective, advice and support of our stakeholders is critical to the successful delivery of the Building Safety Programme.
There is a Strategic Stakeholder Group which takes place every six weeks and provides a platform for members to voice their opinion on current and future policy. This group is well balanced with representatives of both the supply side and residents and leaseholders. Three members of the Welsh Cladiators attend as representatives of residents and leaseholders as well as Tenant Participation Advisory Service Cymru (TPAS), the Leasehold Advisory Service (LEASE) and Leasehold Knowledge Partnership.
In addition, my officials and I meet individually with leaseholder and resident representatives. There are also resident focus groups run by Beaufort Research and IFF Research on our behalf which are providing valuable insight into the issues which matter most to residents.
