Will the Minister provide an update on the North East Wales National Park Designation Project?

Answered by Minister for Rural Affairs and North Wales, and Trefnydd | Answered on 25/10/2023

The Designation of a new National Park in North-East Wales is a manifesto and Programme for Government (PfG) commitment. We have asked NRW to take forward a programme that includes detailed assessment, consideration of the evidence, engagement and consultation. This will inform a final decision on any new designation. Additional funding is being allocated to NRW to deliver the formal designation programme.

There will be extensive engagement and consultation throughout the process, in several stages. This autumn, NRW wants everyone to have their say in a number of events. It is important that people and organizations share their opinions, and the feedback collected will be crucial in shaping the next stages. There will also be a full consultation next year on the proposed final boundaries of a new Park.
