How many people leave Wales to undertake undergraduate study, and how many return after completion of their undergraduate studies for employment purposes?

In 2021/22, 29% (10,000) of first year undergraduate enrolments from students of Welsh domicile were to higher education providers outside Wales. We do not routinely collect statistics on the graduate destinations of all students, rather this is undertaken through survey data. In 2020/21, there were 7,420 Welsh domiciled undergraduate respondents to the graduate outcomes survey for whom work was the most important activity. 2,760 (37%) studied outside Wales. Of the 2,760 who studied outside Wales, 1,160 (42%) returned to Wales to work.
