Will the Minister provide a breakdown of the number of people waiting per week for predictive genetic testing and confirm the average current waiting time in Wales?

Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services | Answered on 11/10/2023

The All Wales Medical Genomics Service receives around 10 referrals per week for predictive testing across the whole of Wales. This includes patients with a range of familial conditions including an inherited predisposition to cancer, cardiac conditions and neurological conditions.

All referrals are triaged according to individual patient need with urgent cases being actioned within 2 weeks of referral. The median wait for an appointment is currently around 18 weeks but this varies depending on patient priority. With the recent introduction of a new clinical information management system and a current waiting list validation exercise this is a continually improving picture.
