What progress has the Welsh Government made on developing a Welsh housing survey and what benefits are envisaged in terms of improving the quality of data on the private rented sector in Wales?
Understanding the Welsh housing stock is essential if we are to deliver the homes we need for the future and deliver commitments to achieve a just transition to lower carbon heating in the coming years.
I expect to make an announcement on my proposals for a Welsh Housing Survey no later than the end of March 2024. The proposals will include how we can improve the consistency of data collected and the use of administrative data in conjunction with periodic housing surveys, to provide a comprehensive understanding of housing stock in Wales.
In relation to the Private Rented Sector, Rent Smart Wales have improved the quality of data being collected and have introduced a series of interactive dashboards to replace monthly reports. The dashboards are available to view at Resource library (gov.wales)
