What has been the Welsh Government's total expenditure on Brexit preparedness activity for each year since 2016, including staffing costs, resourcing new border controls and infrastructure at relevant Welsh ports and business outreach campaigns?

We do not hold information on aggregate expenditure incurred on all matters relating to the UK’s exit from the EU over the period in question. However, information on resourcing and work on this issue has been included in the Welsh Government’s published accounts in relevant years.

In relation to preparation for the border control regime, across the last three financial years we have spent a total of £9.3m, which includes a UK Government contribution of £3.3m. Of this total spend, £7.9m has been used for the Holyhead Border Control Post site, where work has begun. We continue to press the UK Government to fully fund the set-up costs of border controls.
