How will the Welsh Government reduce the time spent by pharmacists on non-clinical tasks, in line with the Independent Review of Clinical Pharmacy Services at NHS Hospitals in Wales report?
The Welsh Government response to the Independent Review of Clinical Pharmacy Services at NHS Hospitals in Wales outlines the proposed actions to support implementation of the recommendations of the review.
In addition to the work already underway to reconfigure pharmacy technical services, local medicines information services, and roll out electronic prescribing to every hospital in Wales, we will commission a review of opportunities to improve the efficiency of hospital medicines’ supply and logistics arrangements, and release pharmacist and pharmacy technician time for clinical care.
Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) will continue to commission training for pharmacy technicians and pharmacy support staff to ensure we have the right skill mix in the pharmacy workforce and the skills needed to respond to the changing nature of pharmacy services.
