What support is the Welsh Government providing for the Rugby World Cup on the model of the Football World Cup Partner Support Fund or otherwise ?

The Welsh Government is working with its strategic partners Wales Arts International (WAI), Urdd Gobaith Cymru and the Future Generations Commissioner to deliver an extensive programme of activity around the Rugby World Cup.

The Wales in France cultural fund is a partnership between the Welsh Government, the British Council and WAI. The Welsh Government is contributing up to £50,000 towards the fund which supports six collaborative cultural projects linking French and Welsh organisations.

The Fund has supported a formal partnership between the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod and Lorient Festival and already there is a significant Welsh presence planned for 2024 which builds on activities that took place during this year’s festival. WAI is also delivering a cultural programme including performances by Welsh music and dance artists at the Paris Fanzone.

Urdd Gobaith Cymru’s programme includes choral performances centred around Wales’s games against Australia and Georgia, as well as cultural and language workshops, whilst the Future Generations Commissioner is planning activity which focuses on nature and climate change strategies.

There are also Ministerial engagement programmes taking place around three of Wales’s Group matches, which will focus on the cultural, tourism and economic opportunities the tournament presents.
