What is the Welsh Government doing to reduce dependency on coal as a heating system in off-grid homes in Wales?
Our recently published Heat Strategy for Wales consultation was published alongside a review of the publicly available evidence. Our strategy includes the development of advice and support for households on the right solution for their property, including off-grid properties, and support for skills and the development of a local supply chain so individuals can have confidence in the advice and installations proposed. We will be setting out more details of this approach on our action plans which will accompany the final strategy early in 2024.
Our coal policy statement, published in March 2021, makes it very clear that our intent is to bring to a managed end the extraction and use of coal in Wales as soon as is practically possible.
We continue to see the damage that the cost-of-living crisis is having on households in Wales. We are doing everything within our powers for those who are most vulnerable, including children living in poverty. The UK Government has a responsibility to ensure that the support it provides for those struggling to pay their bills is fit for purpose.
