What support and encouragement does the Welsh Government provide to ensure that every school in Wales has a leader for young carers who co-ordinates the support for young carers and advocates on their behalf, such as that which is provided at Radyr High School?

The Welsh Government published our Strategy for Unpaid Carers and associated Carers Delivery Plan in 2021. These were co-produced with national carers organisations, statutory bodies and with input from unpaid carers. Priority 4 of our Delivery plan highlights the role of young carers and young adult carers.

Resources funded by the Welsh Government were published in 2020 to help education practitioners and governors improve their understanding of the challenges which may face young carers in education.

The Welsh Government co-produced with all local authorities in Wales the national Young Carer ID card.  Available across all of Wales from April 2021, it is designed to help a young carer both in and out of school access help and support.
