What is the amount of grant funding the North Wales Fire and Rescue Authority has received from the Welsh Government over the last two years?

All Fire and Rescue Authorities (FRAs) in Wales raise almost all of their income by levying contributions on their constituent local authorities.  They do not receive core funding from the Welsh Government.

In the financial years 2021/22 and 2022/23, the Welsh Government provided a total of £11.1 million grant funding to North Wales FRA. 87% of this was by way of subsidy to the costs of firefighters’ pensions.

The Welsh Government also provides grant funding to the three FRAs on an all-Wales basis to maintain our national resilience capabilities and for community safety programmes. Most of those grants are paid to one of the FRAs on behalf of all three, including to North Wales FRA. A total of £4,683,628 across Wales was provided in 2021/22 and £4,708,529 in 2022/23.
