What steps is the Minister taking to build on the work by Cwmni Egino to make Trawsfynydd a home for small modular reactors?

With the launch of Great British Nuclear (GBN) on 18 July, we now look forward to increasing dialogue between GBN and Cwmni Egino on future collaboration, to determine how they work together to advance nuclear projects in North West Wales. The Welsh Government is also in regular contact with GBN and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero to map out Cwmni Egino’s future role.

We expect plans for new development at sites across the UK (including Trawsfynydd and Wylfa) to be confirmed by the end of the year once GBN has completed its technology and initial site selection processes, with respect to which sites are to be taken forward in its first deployment programme in the next UK parliament term (2024-29).
