Will the Minister provide a timeline for the introduction of advertising restrictions on products high in fat, salt and sugar in line with commitments in the Healthy Weight: Healthy Wales Strategy?

A ban on advertising products high in fat, salt and sugar after the 9pm watershed and online is proposed by the UK Government and would apply across the UK. But the implementation of this has been delayed twice, most recently, to 2025.

We are also exploring the opportunities we have in Wales to restrict advertising of products high in fat, salt and sugar in areas such as train stations and bus stops, as well as near to schools.

I made a statement to the Senedd on 27 June outlining the next steps in terms of restricting the placement and price promotion of products high in fat, salt and sugar. We plan to bring forward subordinate legislation in autumn 2024, with the intention of regulations coming into force in 2025. This will allow retailers adequate time to prepare for the changes. We will consult later in the year on enforcement.
