Has the Welsh Government met with local authorities in the last 12 months to discuss school capacity issues?

Answered by Minister for Education and the Welsh Language | Answered on 19/07/2023

Welsh Government officials have met with local authorities twice in the last 12 months as part of the Association of Directors of Education in Wales (ADEW) Provision of School Places (POSP) group where school places and capacity are discussed. Officials also meet with local authorities on a termly basis at the ADEW School Admissions Group, where capacity for school places is also discussed.

Welsh Government also collects information about school places each year from local authorities. Local authorities provide the number of pupils on roll, the capacity and the unfilled or oversubscribed places for each maintained school.
