What assessment has the Welsh Government made of the impact on tourism if proposals to shorten the school summer holiday go ahead?

This work is being carried out in collaboration with Sian Gwenllian the Plaid Cymru designated member as part of the Co-operation Agreement between the Welsh Government and Plaid Cymru.

As set out in the Programme for Government and Co-operation Agreement, the Welsh Government is committed to exploring the structure of the school year to support wellbeing and learning, while helping address disadvantage and better aligning with modern living and working patterns.

While we have been clear that any proposals for change will be subject to a formal public consultation exercise, throughout policy development and evidence gathering, we have, and will continue to, engage with the tourism and visitor economy sectors. Similarly, work will be supported by the appropriate policy impact assessment process.  It is also important to note that Visit Wales will continue to track high level KPIs on the performance of the visitor economy.
