How is the Welsh Government ensuring that local authorities in South Wales Central have adequate resources to fix potholes and maintain roads and pavements?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Climate Change | Answered on 12/07/2023

The Government is providing unhypothecated revenue funding of over £5.5 billion and £180m capital funding in the 2023-24 local government settlement, in support of Local Authority services, including maintenance of roads and pavements.

This equates to an increase of 7.9% or £403 million on a like-for-like basis compared to the current year. Local authorities decide how to prioritise their settlement funding, alongside income from council tax and fees and charges, for local priorities.

The Government continues to provide funding to local authorities to address disruptions caused by severe weather to the highway network through the Resilient Roads Fund. Allocations for the 2023-24 financial year are due to be announced soon.
