When will a fracture liaison service be available for constituents in Arfon as part of osteoporosis care?
We are committed to developing Fracture Liaison Services (FLS) across Wales and expect all health boards to achieve full coverage by September 2024.
To support this commitment, an all-Wales FLS assurance and development group has been established to support health boards. The group has been meeting since October 2022 and has been working to promote and encourage health boards to participate in the National FLS audit to provide an accurate baseline for the assurance group and audit providers to work with. The group reviews performance indicators, discusses progress and offers support to health boards to overcome identified barriers.
In addition, our National Clinical Lead for Falls and Frailty, Dr Inder Singh has been engaging with health boards to assess their business case approaches and provide support accordingly. Dr Singh is in regular contact with colleagues in Betsi Cadwaladr University Heath Board and is supporting them to further develop their FLS.
Dr Singh has also engaged with medical directors across Wales to bolster support at executive level within health boards and with nursing leaders to ensure the effective development of clinical nurse specialists as key clinicians delivering these services.
