To what extent does the scheme to provide free Welsh lessons to 16-25 year olds manage to meet demand and ensure that everyone who wishes to take a free course can do so?
1,602 16-25 year olds have accessed free Welsh lessons through the provision led by the National Centre for Learning Welsh since September 2022. The provision meets demand in full and any young person wishing to access a free Welsh course can do so. The provision ranges from self-study taster sessions right through to raising confidence courses, all designed to increase the use of Welsh. Young people can choose to attend a course which is delivered in a way that suits their learning style or circumstances. They can choose from online self-study courses, online tutor led courses, a hybrid provision, face to face lessons in the community, or face to face courses which are held in locations frequented by young people such as colleges, universities, and apprenticeship settings. The National Centre has also established partnerships with Duke of Edinburgh, Esgol, and Say Something in Welsh to develop projects to deliver courses to young people.
This work is being carried out in collaboration with Cefin Campbell, the Plaid Cymru designated member, as part of the Co-operation Agreement between the Welsh Government and Plaid Cymru.
