What discussions has the Welsh Government had with the UK Government to ensure border inspection posts set up in Wales are well-resourced in order to follow an intelligence-led approach for equines, as part of the Border Target Operating Model?
Officials have been working closely with their counterparts in Scotland, England and Northern Ireland since the review of border controls was announced in April 2022, to ensure the Border Target Operating Model delivers on our ambitions and standards for high biosecurity and animal welfare in Wales.
That has continued since the draft Target Operating Model was published in April 2023. Following consultation and stakeholder engagement, Ministers from the various Governments have been discussing key issues, and the final document should be published later this month, following which the Minister for Economy will make a statement when the document is published.
