What discussions has the Welsh Government had with the UK Government regarding ensuring that there is no exemption of checks on dogs and cats as part of its Border Target Operating Model?

Answered by Minister for Rural Affairs and North Wales, and Trefnydd | Answered on 06/07/2023

Officials have been working closely with their counterparts in Scotland, England and Northern Ireland since the review of border controls was announced in April 2022, to ensure that the Border Target Operating Model delivers on our ambitions and standards for high biosecurity and animal welfare in Wales.

It is therefore not appropriate for me to give details of the Target Operating Model at this stage, but I anticipate the Minister for Economy will make a statement when the document is published.
