Will the Minister outline in detail why Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is expected to finish the financial year with £134m deficit, and provide a breakdown of the overspend?

Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services | Answered on 10/07/2023

Betsi Cadwaladr UHB submitted their latest annual plan on 30th June, officials are working to scrutinise that plan.

The Board faces the same challenges as the rest of the NHS in coping with increased demand and the legacy of the pandemic. In addition, and in line with the wider economy, it faces inflationary pressures across different elements of its cost base.

We will be working with the Board in line with the approach we are taking as the organisation is in Special Measures to challenge plans and further assess their financial position.
