What guidance is given to Natural Resources Wales to liaise with South Wales Fire and Rescue to create firebreaks in their woodland plantations in order to manage outbreaks of wildfires?

Answered by Minister for Climate Change | Answered on 29/06/2023

Welsh Government sets out the vision and guiding principles for the management of the Welsh Government Woodland Estate (WGWE) and has delegated responsibility for its management to Natural Resources Wales (NRW). NRW develops internal guidance and procedures to undertake this role. With reference to wildfires, NRW works closely with a number of partners including the Fire and Rescue Services on preventative measures to reduce the occurrence and impact of wildfires on the WGWE, which includes the creation of fire breaks where appropriate.
