How is the Welsh Government supporting local authorities to tackle fly-tipping in rural areas?
We fund the Fly-tipping Action Wales programme operated by Natural Resources Wales who support Local Authorities and other organisations to tackle fly-tipping. The programme provides a range of practical advice for Local Authorities which includes fly-tipping prevention, undertaking effective enforcement, and providing toolkits to deliver awareness raising campaigns.
During 2022 we increased funding for the programme to provide an enhanced focus on fly-tipping enforcement. This has allowed Fly-tipping Action Wales to dedicate two enforcement officers to support Local Authorities and other landowners to target fly-tipping hotspots within rural areas, such as on common land, agricultural land and Natural Resources Wales forestry land.
