What projections does the Minister have for the installation of electric vehicle charging points over the next decade?
We are aware of the need to significantly accelerate the pace of delivery of fast, rapid and ultra-rapid charging infrastructure to ensure sufficient and equitable accessibility to chargepoints across Wales, as per our EV Charging Strategy and Action Plan. To fulfil demand, around 34,000 fast chargers and 4,000 rapid chargers are projected to be needed across Wales by 2030. The Welsh Government is working with public and private sector organisations to deliver this challenging programme of infrastructure.
We are proactively planning for the future EV charging network in Wales and have built a ‘preferred network’ webmap which identifies future demand scenarios and their spatial distribution. This will allow us to identify priority areas for installing EV charging infrastructure, to encourage and expediate public and private sector investment to take place in a way that meets growing demand and provides the best value to Wales, in line with the Strategy and Action Plan.
