What is the maximum amount for spending on the procurement credit card for marketing services, before the marketing product is put forward for tender?

Answered by Minister for Finance and Local Government | Answered on 22/05/2023

Procurement limits are consistent across all types of spend by the Welsh Government.  For purchases with a value up to £4,999 a quotation from one supplier is required. Unless in exceptional circumstances, where a departure from normal procurement procedure has been approved, purchases with a value of between £5,000 and £24,999 require quotations from a minimum of three suppliers . Purchases above £25,000 are subject to formal tendering processes.

These limits apply to spend on Welsh procurement cards. However, every procurement card has an individual transaction limit for all spend approved by the departments’ head of finance and relevant director. Sixty percent of the active cards have a transaction limit of £5,000 or less. Cards with higher transaction limits are used, in the main, by staff based overseas for travel and items required for running the overseas offices.
