What action is the Welsh Government taking to ensure the expansion of free school meals is not a detriment to the health of children, as a result of the industrial scale it can take to mass produce so much food?

We are working closely with local authorities to ensure the expansion of free school meals is not a detriment to the health of children.

During the roll-out, all local authorities and governing bodies of maintained schools must continue to comply with the Healthy Eating in Schools Regulations. These set out the type of food and drink which may be provided during the school day, which local authorities and schools are required to adhere to.

The universal provision of free school meals in primary schools is being carried out in collaboration with Siân Gwenllian MS, the Plaid Cymru lead designated member, as part of the Co-operation Agreement between the Welsh Government and Plaid Cymru.
