Will the Minister commit to publishing statistics on the prevalence and incidence of chronic kidney disease in Wales by the end of the year?
An academic study has estimated that kidney disease affects approximately 10% of the global population.
Statistics on hospital admissions where the primary diagnosis was kidney disease are published annually by Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW) through the Patient Episode Database for Wales (PEDW) tables. These are counts of admissions only, and cannot be used to derive true measures of incidence or prevalence of chronic kidney disease among the population. Further information may be available directly from DHCW or from health boards. There are currently no plans to develop other prevalence or incidence estimates.
